The actual test
Business size does not determine whether AI automation is worth it — task volume does. The practical threshold: if a single repetitive, rule-heavy task consumes more than ten hours a week across your team, a ₹2,50,000–4,50,000 agent system will typically pay back inside a year. Below that, it will not, and you should not buy one.
Tasks that qualify
Quotation preparation from a product list. Order intake from WhatsApp or email into a structured system. Extracting data from supplier documents and invoices. Follow-up sequences on enquiries that would otherwise go cold. Reconciling two systems that disagree. These share a shape: high volume, clear rules, low judgement.
Tasks that do not
Anything requiring relationship judgement, negotiation, or a decision you would not delegate to a new employee. Anything running weekly for ten minutes. Anything where the rules change faster than you could document them.
A ₹3,00,000 system that saves ₹40,000 a year is a bad purchase and I would rather say so on the first call than after the invoice.
